  • Mathematics

At Pinvin C of E Academy, we are determined that every child leaves our school as a fluent, confident and competent mathematician, equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to reason, solve problems and apply mathematics successfully in everyday life. We want our pupils to develop a positive attitude towards mathematics, approaching challenges with perseverance, confidence and a belief in their ability to succeed.

Through our mathematics curriculum, pupils build a secure understanding of key mathematical concepts and learn to make connections between different areas of learning. We strive to help children recognise the relevance of mathematics in the wider world and understand how it can support them in their future education and daily lives.

Our teaching is ambitious, inclusive and carefully sequenced to ensure all pupils can succeed. Using the White Rose Maths scheme as the foundation of our curriculum, learning is broken down into small, progressive steps that enable children to develop a deep and secure understanding of mathematical concepts. Lessons are designed to develop fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills, enabling pupils to deepen their understanding, make connections and think mathematically. Wherever possible, meaningful links are made across the curriculum to provide purposeful contexts for learning and to demonstrate the practical application of mathematical knowledge.

In line with the National Curriculum, pupils are encouraged to explore mathematical concepts in depth, using precise mathematical vocabulary to explain, justify and communicate their thinking. Following the White Rose Maths mastery approach, children move through concepts together, using a range of concrete resources, pictorial representations and abstract methods to support a deep and lasting understanding of mathematics. Through discussion, investigation and exploration, pupils learn to select efficient strategies, explain their methods and develop confidence in their reasoning.

Rooted in our Christian vision and values, we foster a learning environment where children feel safe to take risks, ask questions and learn from their experiences. Through wisdom, pupils are encouraged to think deeply, make connections and apply their mathematical understanding in different contexts. Through hope, they learn to persevere when faced with challenges and believe in their ability to succeed. By promoting joy in learning, we seek to develop curious and enthusiastic mathematicians who enjoy exploring, investigating and solving problems. Our aim is for every child to experience success in mathematics and leave Pinvin C of E Academy ready to apply their skills with confidence in the next stage of their education and beyond.

    TTRS and NumBots

At Pinvin C of E Academy, we subscribe to NumBots and Times Tables Rock Stars, engaging online platforms that support children in developing key mathematical skills. NumBots is available for pupils from Reception onwards and helps build fluency and confidence with number facts, while Times Tables Rock Stars is used from Year 2 to Year 6 to strengthen multiplication and division knowledge in a fun and motivating way.

All pupils are provided with login details to access these platforms both in school and at home, enabling them to practise and consolidate their learning regularly. If you are unsure of your child's login information, please contact their class teacher, who will be happy to help.
