Ambitious for All
At Pinvin C of E Academy, learning is driven by a simple but powerful belief: every child deserves an education that is ambitious for them, every lesson, every day. Our curriculum, classroom practice, and assessment systems work together to ensure that all pupils – regardless of background, need, or starting point – are challenged, supported, and inspired to achieve their very best.
Reading and communication sit at the heart of our curriculum. Through systematic early reading, rich literature and explicit vocabulary instruction, pupils develop the knowledge and language needed to access the full curriculum. Structured talk is integral to the learning journey at Pinvin. Pupils are taught to articulate ideas clearly, justify their thinking and engage respectfully with different viewpoints through our ambitious and inclusive curriculum.
A Culture of High Expectations
Our teaching approach is centred around a culture of high expectations where children encounter rich knowledge, high‑level vocabulary, and challenging concepts across the curriculum. We believe that ambition should be a universal experience, not something reserved for a few. Scaffolds are added only when needed, never limiting access to powerful knowledge but allowing children to reach their learning goal.
At Pinvin C of E Academy, our Pinvin Dreams are the special learning qualities that help every child become the best they can be.

All of our staff believe deeply in every child. We are committed to ensuring every pupil feels safe, valued and successful, enabling them to thrive academically, socially and spiritually. By nurturing these learning qualities every day, we support our whole school community to live out our vision: to be happy, to grow, and to flourish together.
A Carefully Sequenced, Knowledge‑Rich Curriculum
Across all subjects, learning is designed to secure long-term knowledge and cumulative understanding – the ability to understand and apply knowledge because it has been taught in well‑structured, connected steps. Our curriculum is informed by the strongest available evidence about how children learn and remember, ensuring learning is sequenced, meaningful and memorable:
This ensures that every pupil, EYFS through Year 7, benefits from an education that expands opportunity and strengthens long‑term understanding whilst fostering our Christian values.
Expert Teaching in Every Classroom
Learning at Pinvin is shaped by evidence-informed teaching practices drawn from leading educational research, including the EEF, CUSP and research into explicit instruction, modelling and questioning. Our lessons follow a predictable but dynamic structure that helps pupils feel secure and focused, reducing their cognitive load and allowing them to be ready to learn.
Most lessons are structured around our CEEAC (Connect, Explain, Example, Attempt, Apply, Challenge) approach, providing consistency whilst allowing teachers flexibility to respond to pupils' learning needs:
This consistent approach ensures that all pupils experience high-quality teaching that motivates, supports, and challenges them.
We want every pupil to become an increasingly independent learner who can recall prior knowledge, think critically, communicate effectively and apply learning in unfamiliar contexts. Through carefully planned opportunities for retrieval, discussion, practice and reflection, pupils develop the confidence and resilience needed for future success.

Inclusive by Design
Inclusion is at the heart of our teaching model. High-quality first teaching supports all learners, but especially those with SEND. Instead of lowering expectations, we remove barriers through a variety of personalised methods:
Every child is given access to quality-first teaching with the support of scaffolds, visuals, concentration tools and/ or manipulatives. No child is denied challenge as we maintain ambitious expectations for all pupils, adapting the pathway to success rather than the destination.
Assessment That Drives Progress
Assessment at Pinvin is purposeful, regular, and responsive. It is used to improve learning, not simply measure it. Teachers use a range of techniques, including exit tickets, mini‑whiteboards, questioning, and feedback routines to build a clear, up‑to‑date picture of each child’s understanding. This ongoing assessment helps us adapt teaching swiftly, ensuring misconceptions are addressed and progress is continuous.
Assessment is used to identify what pupils know and what they can remember and can do, thus informing future teaching and intervention.
A Commitment to Professional Excellence
To ensure teaching is consistently excellent, every member of staff regularly engages in high‑quality professional development, guided by the evidence from the EEF (Education Endowment Fund). This may include – but is not limited to – coaching, external providers, expert teachers, open lesson and lesson visits. Collaborative reflection, shared expertise, and evidence-based practice strengthen our culture of continuous improvement.
At Pinvin C of E Academy, we believe that all children can succeed. Through an ambitious curriculum, expert teaching, inclusive practice and a culture of high expectations, we ensure every pupil develops the knowledge, skills and character needed to flourish in school and beyond.
